¿Qué es un Mail Club? Cartas, arte y pequeñas sorpresas en tu buzón.

What is a Mail Club? Letters, art, and little surprises in your mailbox.

When was the last time you opened your mailbox and found something that truly excited you?
Not a bill. Not junk mail. Not even that package you knew perfectly well was coming. A real letter. Something prepared by a person, sent to your home, and perhaps something you had been waiting several weeks for.
It may seem like a small thing, but in a world where we are accustomed to practically everything being immediate, there is something special about waiting for a letter again.
And it is precisely around that idea that Mail Clubs are born.

So… what is a Mail Club?

A Mail Club is, in essence, a type of pen-pal club.
Typically, an artist or creator periodically prepares a small collection of letters, illustrations, stickers, postcards, or other objects that they then send by mail to the people who are part of the club.
But there isn't just one way to create a Mail Club.
Some operate through a monthly subscription, while others do so by seasons or independent editions. Some are focused primarily on stationery and art; others include small activities, collectibles, or even stories that continue with each new letter.
Each artist ends up making it completely their own. And I think that is part of its charm.

The pleasure of waiting for a letter again

We live accustomed to receiving everything immediately.

We send a message and it arrives in seconds. We can see hundreds of images in an afternoon, jump from one post to another, and buy practically anything with a couple of clicks.

And perhaps that is precisely why receiving something physical feels different.

A letter forces you to wait.

Someone had to imagine what it contains, draw it, write it, print it, prepare the envelope, and send it. Then, that little piece of their world traveled miles until it ended up in your mailbox.
And for a few minutes, you can sit down, open it, and discover it little by little.
I think Mail Clubs recover a little bit of that feeling we had when we were children and found something special where we didn't expect it. The thrill of collecting little treasures, keeping a beautiful letter in a drawer, or sticking a sticker in our favorite notebook.
They are a small excuse to pause.

What can you find inside a Mail Club?

It depends entirely on the creator.
An edition can include letters, illustrations, stickers, postcards, stationery, small DIY projects, collectibles, or surprises created exclusively for club members.

There can also be a different theme for each mailing or even a story that grows little by little with each new edition.
And you don't always have to know exactly what you are going to receive.
Sometimes part of the magic is precisely there: in finding an envelope in the mailbox and discovering what is inside.

Is it the same as buying something in a store?

Not exactly.
When you go into a store and buy an illustration, you know which illustration you chose and which package will arrive home.
In a Mail Club, in addition to the objects you receive, you are also part of the experience.

There is the wait. The theme of each edition. Opening the envelope. Discovering the small pieces it contains. Keeping them, using them, or collecting them over time.
And, in some clubs, the experience begins even before the letter arrives in the mailbox.

Through social media, Patreon, or other artist communities, members can participate in the creative process: vote between different designs, choose themes, decide on some of the rewards for upcoming editions, or see small previews of what is being prepared.

In this way, you not only receive the final result, but you can accompany the artist as the next letter takes shape.

And there is another part that is also very important to me: Being part of one is also a way to support their work and allow them to continue dedicating time to creating new drawings, stories, and little worlds.

From a letter to a whole world

Perhaps this is precisely the part I like most about Mail Clubs.
A letter can simply be a letter.
But it can also become a door.
Some time ago, I started wondering what would happen if the creatures, illustrations, and little stories I have been creating for years actually belonged to the same place.
What if, somewhere, there existed a mysterious forest from which letters were sent from time to time?
That is how my own Mail Club began to take shape: Letters from the Forest.
At first, it was a relatively simple idea: create small envelopes full of illustrations, stickers, and pretty things related to nature and fantasy.
But, as usually happens to me with these things, the forest began to grow.
Places appeared, Creatures, Stories, Unexplored corners.
And, at some point among all that, a mysterious society known as The Kestrel Society also appeared.

So Letters from the Forest ended up becoming something a little different.
But I think that story deserves its own article.

I'll leave you the link to the blog here where I tell a little more about this very special mail club:

See you in the next adventure!
